How do You play roulette? I know how i play but how does everyone else play? I usually pick a third and go for it hitting the four corners of the whole section and then the middle numbers and really ive won quite a bit doing this i turned 200 into over 5000 the other day in like 25 mins. I know i got lucky but my section hit 7 times in a row

Im doing an assignment and it is completely whacked but anyway i have to do it and if anyone has played roulette than how is the probability related to the odds of that gambling game?

  4. Sarah says:

All casino games are related to probability. Roulette is a classic example.

There are two types of Roulette wheel; American and European. An American Roulette wheel has 38 sections the ball can land in. The numbers 1-36, 0, and 00. A European Roulette wheel is identical except it does not have a 00 section. The rest of my discussion will assume a European Roulette wheel for simplicity, however the ideas can easily be carried across to American Roulette.

In European Roulette, players can place numerous different bets on each spin. They can bet on an even or odd number coming up, a low (1-18) or high (19-36) number, an individual number, or many other things. For full details please see Roulette in Wikipedia.

Each bet a player can make has certain odds of occuring. For example, if a player bets on a 34 coming up, he/she will have a 1 in 37 chance of being correct. The casino, however, only pays 36 times the amount bet. The casino pays an amount such that the expected return of the best is less than 100%. So if a player bets $1 on number 34, for 37 times in a row and won once (as mathematically expected), he/she will actually lose 1 dollar. This is called an expected loss and it is how casinos make money.

Similarly if someone bets on ‘evens’. The zero section is not counted as evens so the probability of winning is 18/37 which is less than half. The casino only pays out $2 per a dollar bet so again on average the player loses.

There are many other bets one can place in Roulette, however in each case, the expected payout is less than the amount bet. For more details of Roulette, betting probabilities and payouts, see Roulette in Wikipedia.

On chat roulette sometimes it doesn’t show people’s faces it shows a picture or something that looks typed or something like that. How do they do that?

  6. StreamRecorder says:

Just use vurtual web-cam software. It allows to show images, videos,… instead of your web-cam

On chat roulette I want to prank some people with a video, and there are some videos on youtube with it. There’s this guy eating chicken for the video I want, but anyway, so like, you have this video you get from youtube or something and it goes as your chat roulette camera. Does anybody know how to do this?

  8. GameRecorder says:

    Just use virtual web-cam software

For example, having 10 close friends over and playing roulette with a real roulette wheel. I have heard it is illegal in New York, I was wondering about in Minnesota.

If you are playing for play chips, no. If you are playing for real money, yes.

You can get cheap plastic roulette wheels in a Toys R Us store.

While I was learning basics roulette, I am curious that how does house gets its advantage in roulette by zero or double zeros(American roulette)?
Can we bet on zero(s) and if yes, what is the pay out? Thanks
Thanks John F. Cleared few doubts in my mind.
I would like to hear from others what they feel about this game.

  12. JohnF says:

You can bet on the zero. It counts just the same as any other number.

The house edge isn’t so much from the 0 or 00. It’s from the fact that there are actually 37 or 38 numbers on the board, but a straight bet pays off at 35 to 1.

Think of it this way (assuming American roulette). If you put $1 on every available number including 0 and 00, you would have spent $38 . The house will pay the winning number $35, plus the initial $1 bet, for $36 total.

The house will take in $38 and pay out $36, for a profit of $2. In European roulette the profit is $1.

The same concept applies for the outside bets. If you spin the wheel a large number of times, you will find that it averages to 18 reds, 18 blacks, 1 zero and 1 double zero.

If you consistently place $1 on red, for instance, then for every $38 you bet you will win $18 and lose $20 for a net loss of $2.

Also, why is the russian roulette game in Deer hunter is described as a metaphor to Vietnam itself?

  16. GeraldCline says:

The Deer Hunter was Hollywood’s attempt to be clever. It had nothing to do with the Vietnam War or those of us who fought in it. I’m one of those Vietnam vets that hates that movie.

What is difference between american roulette and european roulette? which one do you suggest me to choose?

  20. spirus40 says:

European has one 0. American has 0 and 00. The house edge is lower in European so I would go with it.
